Another Summer Casual Event in the Books

The event was hosted by Ray and Lois and Phil Kellerman.  The meal included subs, salads, desserts, ice cream, and appetizers.  There were over 25 attending  and included friends and families.  After the meal, Phil Kellerman hosted a Jeopardy with 4 teams competing.  Categories were General, Rotary, NY Landmarks and Miscellaneous.  Thanks so much to the hosts for setting up another very successful summer event and fundraiser.
 
Summer Casuals:
Jim and Roberto wanted to thank all for the successful fundraiser at the Leyhane’s the previous week. 
The next Summer Casual is Beautiful at Cap Rep on August 1, which is being setup by the Browns.
The week after the Night at the Joe on August 8th.  Tickets were being distributed by Debbie Rodriquez.
August 15th is a Pizza Party being hosted by Pat and Debbie Rodriquez and they are taking names for those attending.

Global Grant is proceeding with Peters’ guidance.
Kenya has a Medical Mission fund request and Peter is collecting money for Murray to send over.
Circles of Mercy Backpack Program needs collections by August 19th and Carole Heaney has agreed to coordinate the collection.  More information is available on our website SRCRotary.org
There is an RI Membership Meeting by Zoom Thursday Aug 29 at Noon and information should have been distributed via email.  If not feel free to contact Roberto.

The Circles of Mercy Backpack Program

Once again we are choosing to support Circles of Mercy’s Back to School Program. With the economy being what it is today, the need to support the children of our community is greater than ever. Below you will find a list of school supplies that we will be collecting throughout the summer at our summer casual events. If you are unable to attend an event, and would like to arrange a separate pick-up or drop-off, contact Carole Heaney at Carole.heaney@gmail.com. Donated supplies will be collected until August 19, 2024. The requested supplies are as follows:

Another Successful Summer Casual Event

Last night the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club met for its weekly summer casual event. The event, hosted by Jim Leyhane and Roberto Martinez, featured filet mignon, baked potatoes, cowboy beans, and Italian bread in a poolside atmosphere. The evening which was enjoyed by all included many laughs as we all engaged in the fellowship of Rotary.

The next summer casual event, hosted by Lois and Ray Hannah and Phil Kellerman at the Spinney will by on July 25th at 6:00pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone again next Thursday.

An Evening on the Hudson

On Thursday, July 1, 2024 the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club met for dinner at the Boathouse Grille for a summer social event. In attendance were Dick and Mary Drumm, Peter and Debbie Brown, Pat Bailey, Phil Kellerman, Ray Hannan, Murray, Maggie and Jeremy Forth, Jim Leyhane, and Roberto Martinez. An enjoyable time was had by all in a beautiful atmosphere.

Next week’s Summer Casual event, On July 18th at 6:00pm is steaks by the pool hosted by Jim Leyhane and Roberto Martinez. A few extra steaks were ordered, so if you haven’t RSVP’d yet and would still like to attend, please email Roberto at rrmtz@aol.com.

Our Next Summer Casual Event, The Boathouse Grille

On Thursday July 11, 2024 at 6:00 pm the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club will be hosting its next summer casual event at the Boathouse Grille located at 80 Shady Harbor Drive New Baltimore, NY 12124. This event requires as reservation, so please RSVP to Roberto Martinez by Tuesday at 1:00 pm at rrmtz@aol.com if you plan on attending.

The following week, the summer casual event will be Filets by the Pool hosted by Jim Leyhane and Roberto Martinez at Jim’s house. This event will also require a RSVP so that they can order the correct number of steaks. If you plan on attending this event, please RSVP to Roberto at rrmtz@aol.com by Monday, July 8, 2024 at noon.

Happy 4th of July. The Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club would like to wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy 4th of July. As you enjoy the holiday please take a moment to remember all of the sacrifices made to give us the freedoms we enjoy today.

Last night the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club held its annual Presidential Changeover Meeting. The event hosted by Peter and Debbie Brown featured perfect weather, fine food and drinks, and all while surrounded by the Browns’ beautiful gardens. Before Peter Brown handed the gavel off to new incoming president Roberto Martinez, Peter recognized several members of the club including Pat Bailey, Roberto Martinez, Jim Leyhane, Phil Kellerman, Murray Forth, and Debbie Brown for their support during his presidency. Out going President Peter Brown was presented with a jacket as a gift from the club marking his 4th term as club president in is 40 years of service. Some of this past years accomplishments include enlisting social capital, working with RI on a Global Grant that aligns with water initiatives, local scholarships, our annual bowlathon, and support for Girls Inc, Boy Scout Troop 41, the Epilepsy Foundation, Circles of Mercy and assisted the YMCA with projects throughout the year.

There is no meeting scheduled for the upcoming week due to the 4th of July Holiday. The club is looking into making a reservation at the Boathouse Grill in New Baltimore for the July 11th meeting. More details will follow.

This Week, Our Annual Presidential Change Over Meeting Hosted by the Browns

This Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 6:00pm the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club will meet at Peter and Debbie Brown’s residence for dinner and our annual Presidential Change Over meeting where new President Roberto Martinez will be taking over the duties from Peter Brown. This event will kick off the start of our summer casual events hosted by club members on Thursday nights throughout the summer. A quick reminder we ask for a $30 donation to the club for each individual and $40 for a family, these funds will offset the cost of the dinners and serve as a fund raiser for the club. Looking forward to seeing everyone this Thursday.

Meeting Notes:

Website Overview: Kevin Leyhane gave a brief overview of the website. There is a lot of information on the website. It is searchable. The most used are the member contact information, the calendar and meeting minutes.

Water for Kenya Global Grant: Per Peter Brown, there is no update. Same status as last week.

District Grant: Roberto Martinez reported that the final written report for last year’s grant was submitted. The Club should get $1150 in reimbursement. The grant for 24-25 was submitted to the new District.

501C4 Status: No update.

Dues: Murray Forth reminded members that Club dues of $175 are due by July 1st.

Viking Gym: The Viking Gym is open. Debbie Rodriguez contacted Kevin Konig to clarify who is providing the peace pole. He is checking on it. She also emailed and Ron Annis about a hard opening but has not heard back yet.

Fund Raisers: Some suggestions are hosting a pickle ball tournament, Cafe Capriccio raffle, summer outings, plant swap, game nigh, a talent show, silent auction, raffle, cornhole tournament, car show, solicit businesses and fitness fair.

Speakers: We will need speakers for the fall. Carol Heaney attended the Capital District Initiative for Mental Health for Adolescents. She suggested having someone come and speak in the fall.

Summer Schedule: Check the calendar for the latest updates. Please let Debbie Brown know if you will be attending Capital Rep on August 1st. Please let Debbie Rodiguez know if you will be attending the Valley Cats game on August 8th.

Next Meeting: The changeover will be held on Thursday, June 27th at 6:00 pm at Peter and Debbie Brown’s home. Please bring a salad or an appetizer. If you have not done so, please let Debbie know if you will be attending.

The District 7190 Celebration was held on June 19 at 5 pm at Wolf Hollow Brewing in Schenectady. We bid farewell to District 7190 and welcome District 7180.

This Week’s Meeting, A General Club Assembly and Brief Overview of Our Website

This Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 6:00 pm the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club will be hosting its weekly meeting at Moscatiello’s Italian Family Restaurant located on Route 4 in North Greenbush. The agenda for this evening will be an end of the year general club assembly hosted by Peter Brown. A brief overview of our website and some of our local club programs such as Clynk and clothing drop boxes for ShelterBox. As our usually policy, if you are unable to attend in person you may do so remotely using the Zoom link located on the calendar page of our website.

Menu choices for the evening include a choice of Antipasto Salad, Spaghetti with Meatballs, or Eggplant Parmesan. Looking forward to seeing everyone this Thursday, and quick reminder our yearly dues are due July 1, 2024.
