President Phil Kellerman welcomed members to the first dinner meeting of the 2019-20 Rotary Year. He said he will present a look at the upcoming months at next Thursday’s meeting. … Dean Calamaras, a board member of the District 7190 Gift of Life, said the next child being brought to the Capital Region for cardiac surgery is from Bolivia. Coincidentally, GOL is sending a medical team to Bolivia to treat and teach. The 21st annual GOL Golf Tournament is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, September 16, at the Pinehaven Country Club, 1151 Siver Road, Guilderland. Ninety-golfers have been registered so far. The cost is $135 per golfer, which includes lunch, greens fees, shared golf cart, opportunities to win golf contest prizes, and a dinner catered by Illium Bistro.

… Bill Dowd, who is both the Clynk recycling chair and ShelterBox liaison for SRC, showed a brief video on the process of handling deposit containers at Clynk’s Maine recycling center. He noted that when the club agreed to create a Clynk account 18 months ago it designated ShelterBox as the recipient of returned deposits. As a result, he presented the project’s first check to the club, for $400. He thanked all members who have been participating in the recycling program and urged all others to join in, pointing out that at just a nickle or so per container it takes quite a while to amass funds but it’s a painless way to do so.

… A  brief discussion was held on potential Rotaract participation in the upcoming Rotary Day at the United Nations, and sponsorship of Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) in the 2019-20 series. The consensus was to sponsor up to four students as we have been doing for several years. … Dick Drumm announced the upcoming programs, and asked everyone to let him know the speakers and topics they are lining up for the Thursday dinner meetings. A reminder: The running calendar as well as the program assignment chart, both regularly updated as information if given to webmaster Bill Dowd, can be accessed on the club website Calendar page.
