Friday deadline for 60th anniversary earlybird reservation rates

60th logoThis Friday, Valentine’s Day, is the deadline for making your reservation for the “SRC 60th Anniversary Dinner” at the earlybird discount price.

If dinner coordinator Bill Dowd receives your reservation (via email to SRCrotary@gmail.com) by then, you pay just $45 per adult, $10 per child age 12 and under. After that, prices are $50 and $15 until the final RSVP deadline on Thursday, February 20.

This special dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Comfort Inn on Miller Road. It will feature a lavish buffet spread, a performance by a professional magician, a wine/beer/soft drink open bar, and a cash bar, plus some special guests.

We hope you and your guests will make the effort to join us for what promises to be a fun celebration of our club’s 60 years of serving the community and the world.

The magical details for our 60th anniversary party

Doug Eash
Magician Doug Eash

Now it can be revealed! We have a pair of magicians lined up to make our SRC 60th Anniversary Dinner a very special evening for all.

For adults and kids alike, our featured guest will be professional magician Doug Eash and his “It’s Magic!” show. Over a decades-long career he has performed for audiences large and small and for everyone from kindergartners to retirement community residents.

Jim Mendrysa
Chef Jim Mendrysa

Also for adults and kids alike, our old friend Jim Mendrysa of Talk of the Town Catering will be wielding his culinary magic to provide a lavish buffet spread, plus a wine-and-soft drink open  bar and a cash cocktail bar. You can help spread the word about our ‘Foundation Bowl-a-Thon’

All members have been sent a (corrected) copy of this flyer. Please circulate it as much as you can to help publicize the event to the public — on social media, office bulletin boards, schools, grocery store notice boards, etc. We encourage people to put together 4-person teams from their churches, schools, places of work, neighborhoods, families, etc.

We also are seeking lane sponsorships at $100 each. Sponsors — businesses, individuals, etc. — will have their names displayed over the lanes, and they will be placed on the SRC website sponsors page for a full year. If you wish to become a sponsor and/or can sell a sponsorship, checks made payable to “SRC Rotary Club” should be given to Treasurer Murray Forth.

Thank you for your efforts in supporting our community services.

Rotary’s 115th birthday party, and you’re invited

Screen Shot 2020-01-21 at 10.38.57 PMYou are invited to a very special birthday party.

Rotary will turn 115 this year, and District 7190 will celebrate the milestone with a party including light snacks, music, and, of course, a birthday cake — plus a few surprises.

The details: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 23, at the Glenville Senior Center, 32 Worden Road, Glenville. Tickets are just $12 for adults (18 and over), $7 for kids 7 to 17, and those under 6 will be admitted free.

Go here to sign up for the fun.

Your countdown to money-saving RSVP is on

60th logoDid you know there are only 24 days until Valentine’s Day?

But, more important, that also is how much time you have left to make your reservations for the discounted price of just $45 for SRC’s 60th Anniversary Dinner.

After Valentine’s Day, the price goes to $55 per person for the big event.

So, please email BillDowd4Troy@gmail.com ASAP and we’ll save you a place at the table at the discounted price.

If, by some strange quirk of the universe, you have not read the details of our celebration of six decades of public service, here they are:

When: 6 p.m. Thursday, March 5

Where: Comfort Inn & Suites, Miller Road, just off I-90 Exit 10

Who: SRC members, family, friends, and prospective Rotarians

Why: Because we’re celebrating 60 years of community service

What price: $45 per person through February 14, and $55 after that date

The final deadline for reservations is Thursday, February 20. Reservations will cover a wine-and-soft drinks open bar (plus cocktail cash bar), a lavish buffet spread, live entertainment, and a few surprises.

We’re certainly hoping to have as many current members, past members — especially past presidents — and prospective members join us for this very special event, along with family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues who we welcome with open arms. We also will have some visiting Rotary dignitaries.

Come on, get those RSVPs in!

A blast from the past, a peek at the future

Charter Night Program 1960
A copy of the Charter Night program from 1960.

60th logoOn the evening of March 24, 1960, the fledgling 23-member East Greenbush Rotary Club that had been formed earlier that month held a Charter Night dinner at the Crooked Lake Hotel.

On the evening of March 5, 2020, what now is the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club will hold a 60th Anniversary Party at the Comfort Inn & Suites’ Berkshire Room to celebrate that founding.

We hope you are planning to join your fellow Rotarians by making your reservations via email to BillDowd4Troy@gmail.com as soon as possible. RSVPs already have been coming in.

To make the evening even more special, we are trying to connect with past presidents who no longer are active with the club to invite them to join in the festivities since they are a special part of our history.

If you are in contact with any former SRC members, please feel free to invite them to join us by emailing their RSVP.

Reservations are just $45 per person through February 14, and $55 after that date. The final deadline for reservations is Thursday, February 20. Reservations will cover a wine-and-soft drinks open bar (plus cocktail cash bar), a lavish buffet spread, live entertainment, and a few surprises.

We need your party reservations now

60th logoBack in early November, we sent you a “save the date” letter (see copy below) announcing plans to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of our club. The gala dinner will be held on Thursday, March 5, at the Comfort Inn & Suites just off I-90 Exit 10.

Now we need to know if you’re planning to attend.

The venue has been reserved, the caterer lined up, the menu selected, and a special surprise entertainment hired. All we need to know is how many people plan to attend. The price per person for a lavish buffet and one-hour open bar is just $45, not a bad rate for a night out with friends, family, and colleagues. And remember, we always welcome guests at our social events.

Please let us know by responding via email ASAP if you plan to attend, and how many will be in your party. (There’s a no-refund policy because once we give the caterer the headcount we’re locked in to that payment). You can submit your payment to Treasurer Murray Forth at any time over the next six weeks, but we need to solidify the headcount quickly so your reply is needed now.

Our last Holiday Party, until the next one

Once again we officially welcomed in the holidays with our annual “Holiday Party & Basket Silent Auction.” And, once again, we were hosted by Maggie and Murray Forth, to whom we owe a hearty ho-ho-ho and thank you!

Besides the good food and fellowship we all enjoyed, the basket auction raised $500 for the club  treasury to help support our many community service endeavors.

We won’t be gathering again until our Thursday, January 9, 2020 dinner meeting at Quigley’s. Until then, here are some party images to look over.

Get ready to unveil your holiday baskets

SRC Party 2019We’re barely a day away from the start of our annual SRC Holiday Party & Basket Silent Auction. Do you have your themed baskets ready to be bid on?

Besides being a fun part of the event, the auction raises money for our general treasury to be put toward support of our many public service efforts in the community. We’ve been posting suggested theme baskets on the website for several weeks (see here and here), but we suspect a lot of you have your own ideas to amaze and amuse the partygoers.

An advance thank-you to Maggie and Murray Forth, our hosts once again, who have been putting this event together for several weeks. It will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at their residence in East Greenbush, so prepare to put on your party duds and join us.

P.S. The pool will not be open.
